Light from Light

The titular phrase of this song, and much of its imagery, comes from Nicene Creed, but the real inspiration for the song comes from St. Gregory of Nazianzus, who's best known for formulating and defending the doctrine of the Trinity. I was struck by something that St. Gregory wrote in one of his epistles: "For that which God has not assumed He has not healed; but that which is united to His Godhead is also saved." The idea being that, by incarnating–taking on our flesh and our human experiences–God sanctified those things by making them part of Godself. I tried to capture this idea in this song, which I wrote for the Advent season.
